Doctors, nurses and other medical professionals are indispensable — the pandemic has reinforced that. Nurses make up the largest percentage of the U.S. health care workforce: There are more than 2.3 million registered nurses according to census data.
It’s not surprising that there are holidays honoring nurses. National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6 (National Nurses Day) and ends on May 12 (Florence Nightingale’s birthday).
We’ve been asking readers to nominate and vote on many health related categories for several years. Best hospital has the longest tenure, dating back to 2007; best dentist and best orthodontist are the newest, starting as a single category in 2020 before splitting a year later. Here are the 2022 winners of the health care categories in the annual Best of the Capital Region poll.
